Prescriptions
- Please allow us 5 working days to process your prescription request.
- Check with your own pharmacy what the normal supply time will be, as times may vary.
- We do not accept repeat prescription requests over the phone.
Ordering a Repeat Prescription
When you order a prescription online, you can have it sent electronically to a pharmacy of your choice. This is called a nomination.
Urgent Prescriptions
If you need an urgent prescription, please note that we are unable to provide this instantly, and will need you to collect after 5pm on that day, unless previously agreed with a clinician.
If your urgent prescription is sent to a pharmacy for you to collect, please remember your medication will have to be made up and you will have to wait for this to be done.
Your Local Pharmacy
Pharmacy Ordering
Ask your pharmacy to order on your behalf. This saves you time and unnecessary visits to the Practice. Please contact the Pharmacy of your choice for more information if you wish to use this service.
Please note that some pharmacies are no longer offering this service, including Boots at Holsworthy.
About pharmacists
As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:
- coughs
- colds
- sore throats
- tummy trouble
- aches and pains
They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.
In Person
You can order in person by returning the right-hand half of a previous prescription for the required medications.
By Post
You can post your prescription slip or written request to us at the Practice.
If you're unable to collect your prescription from the surgery, please include a stamped, addressed envelope for return by post. Please allow at least seven days if requesting your medication by post.
Questions About Your Prescription
If you have a query about your prescription, our Queryline is available from 10:30am to 3:30pm every weekday (Monday to Friday).
- Telephone: 01409 253692 and chose option 2
- Or you can contact us using our secure form
The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.
On-site Dispensary
Holsworthy Medical Centre
Holsworthy Medical Centre has an on-site pharmacy run by Boots, where patients can have their prescriptions dispensed. Boots is open 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday.
There is also Jhoots (previously Lloyds) pharmacy in the town square and a branch of Boots in Bude, who collect signed prescriptions from the Medical Centre daily.
Hatherleigh Medical Centre
Hatherleigh Medical Centre has its own on-site dispensary for patients. Please note that the surgery closes between 1pm to 2pm every day.
Clinical Prescribing Service
To add to the existing work of the Pharmacy and Prescription teams in our practices, we will now be using a Clinical Prescribing Service.
A team of Clinical Pharmacists will be contacting patients to offer:
- Medication reviews and medication queries
- Statin initiation for patients with high cholesterol
- Help with medication additions or changes, made as a result of a hospital admission or requested by a consultant.
- Repeat prescription requests
- Acute (one-off) prescription requests
On occasion, you may receive a call at the weekend. The Pharmacist will introduce themselves and let you know who they are and that they are working for our practices. They will also ask if you are happy to agree to a review by phone.
As these are not appointments booked by you, we want you to be aware that these are Pharmacists working as part of our extended team and are genuine callers.
Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions
Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).
The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.
When going abroad you can take your NHS medications with you.
Please visit the NHS website for the latest Prescription Charges
These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.
